Going Home from Oahu

Oahu trip - 2011

As much as we had a great time, I am very ready to go home!

I didn't write last night, but yesterday was great fun. We went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and then went to eat at a beach-side restaurant for Valentine's Day.

Today we had several hours to spare, since we checked out around  11:00 am and our flight doesn't leave until 10:30 p.m. We are at the airport now. We went on a long drive up the western coast. It was mostly rural, with some kind of redneck country where all these dilapidated homes had stockpiles of trash everywhere. There was one out-of-the-way beach, but other than that it wasn't that cool. There were also a few beaches with campsites, which seemed like homeless areas turned into these dingy permanent camp homes, with a lot of clutter. At one there was a bird cage with what looked like a huge crow in it. Pet crow?

So, my advice is to anyone visiting Oahu: stick to the Waikiki area for all the sight-seeing and tourist shops, head to the North shore for great surf beaches, and to the southeast for some more beautiful beaches and snorkeling.
